T minus 48 hours

Laying out food for the JMT. After consulring with mutiple people, I still think we have too much food even though we only add up to about 2500 calories for each day. All the books say you should target 3000 to 4000 per day but forget them. We'll survive! It's not like I'm diabetic or anything like that. The moving crew this morning. Thanks to all and to the Burkhardts Storage facilty. Easy in Easy out. We are out of the 371 and I am typing on the floor. Tomorrow will be our last day and we'll get one more post before we leave for Yosemite on Monday 8/1.

Cute Zoey Photos!

I had to put some cute photos of Zoey on this "blog" so that I could always look at her while I'm gone! The one above (top) is of her at 3 months old with her cousin Zeke! The one above (bottom) is of her at 4 months old with me! The one below (top) is her at 2 years old sleeping on her ball (too stinking cute!)!! And the one below (bottom) is of her at 1 just hanging out in our house! (=
I can only hope these photos make you as happy as they do me! Jenn, tell Zoey I love her and miss her every day, and give her lots of hugs and kisses please!

8 days until departure!

Well, we are both excited and scared!
We feel a little stressed about the great number of things that still need to be done!
We have to pack up our apartment, move our stuff into storage, pack for the John Muir Trail (JMT), buy supplies and clothing for the JMT, pack and ship food for the JMT, pack and ship clothes for our 1 week stay in Lake Arrowhead, and pack for our remaining 11 months of travel in other countries! Wow, that's a lot!

I can't believe it's already here!

Here is our current itinerary (it can change at any moment, which is fun and scary all in one):

August 1st depart to Yosemite with Jaime Exley (fabulous brother-in-law), he's our ride!

August 2nd get wilderness permit in Yosemite and start our hike on the JMT and say goodbye to Jaime!

August 23 or 24th complete JMT, meet up with Shay Glevy (fabulous sister), she's our ride to Lake Arrowhead.

August 24-September 2 we'll be hanging out in Lake Arrowhead (my 10 year high school reunion is up there on the 27th).

September 3rd back up to the bay area for a slosh-ball party and b-b-q. Say goodbye to friends and family in that area!

September 6th is my final tooth replacement (hope it looks good)!

September 7th take a flight from San Francisco to Chuuk (pronounced Truk), Micronesia!
Here's a cool website to check out on Micronesia: http://www.visit-fsm.org/visitors/index.html

September 10th arrive in Micronesia! We'll be hanging out, diving, island hopping and living the life in Micronesia for the rest of September!

October 1st take a flight from Guam to Tokyo (might explore a little) to Beijing, China!
We plan on spending the month of October exploring China!

And we are still talking about November. More than likely we will head to Vietnam, Cambodia and Laos, but we'll keep you posted!

To sum it up, we are super excited, but I can personally say that I'm struggling with the sadness part too. I'm really going to miss my Zoey, family and friends. I just want everyone's life to be put on hold while we're away. Too many things can happen in a year, and I don't want to miss a thing. )= So please e-mail us a lot and send photos and tell us you love us! I know I'll need it! Talk to you soon! Erin

2 Weeks Until Departure!

With just 2 weeks until the adventure begins there is still much to be done! Our apartment still looks like we intend to stay forever (not one box packed)! We know that our first month of travel (August) will be spent on the John Muir Trail, but we have yet to pick our first official country! Time is ticking away! Hopefully that will be decided soon, as tickets still need to be ordered! That is just a sample of what is to come...living by the seat of our pants! We are going to let the road take us where it wants to! I will be praying that God will keep us safe. Please feel free to join me. The recent thought is, should we say we're Americans or should we be from Canada? I have an inner struggle about it because I don't like to be dishonest, but I also want to be safe. I'm just going to give it to God and hope that He will guide us to the best answer. Well, I will keep you posted on upcoming events! In case you haven't guessed, it's Erin typing. I have a feeling that most posts will come from me. I seem to be much more into this "blogging" thing than Miles! (= Sending you all love and blessings! Erin
